As of the writing of this article there’s no native way to select multiple tabs in Chrome and print them at once. This can add friction to common workflows such as research where many tabs are open and one needs to save them for future reference or even to upload to an AI service such as ChatGPT to feed into relevant context.

In this post, we’ll walk through how to install and use a Chrome extension called, “Multiple Tab to PDF Printer” which is the most effective mechanism we’ve found to solve this specific use case.

Instructions:

In this step-by-step guide we’ll show you how to install the Chrome extension in order to print multiple PDF tabs in Chrome at once. See below:

  1. Navigate to the Chrome Web Store
  2. Search for “Multiple Tab to PDF Printer” and select the first result or navigate to the extension directly here
  3. Click the ‘Add to Chrome’ button
  4. A confirmation dialog will appear. Click “Add extension” to confirm
  5. After a moment, you will see a notification confirming that the extension has been added to Chrome
  6. The extension icon will appear in your browser’s toolbar, next to the address bar
  7. Once the extension is installed click the red print button to open the extension UI
  8. Select the checkboxes for the required tabs to print (or use Ctlr+click to select each tab using the native Chrome tab select)
  9. Click “Print to PDF” which will print each tab as a separate PDF file

Closing Notes:

This extension is a simple solution to printing all open tabs to PDF at once. Some design choices of the extension include printing each tab as a separate file and using the default Downloads folder. If you have additional feature ideas or alternative approaches let me know!
